Frostrail system requirements

Official specs are TBA — here is what that means, and which third-party tables to ignore.

Last updated:

System Requirements

Steam’s Frostrail page lists Minimum and Recommended hardware as TBA for OS, processor, memory, graphics, storage, and sound. Both columns require a 64-bit processor and OS. That is the entire official table. This page exists so search results do not trick you into buying a GPU from a scraper that filled empty fields with a GTX 950 and called it a requirement.

If you are trying to join a test, pair this with Closed Beta. If you are planning a Q4 2026 PC, pair it with the roadmap.

Official, copied plainly

From the Steam app details at the time of writing:

  • OS: TBA (64-bit required)
  • Processor: TBA
  • Memory: TBA
  • Graphics: TBA
  • Storage: TBA
  • Sound: TBA
  • Platforms checked: Windows yes, macOS no, Linux no on the store checkboxes, even though the FAQ is hopeful about Linux later.
  • Steam Deck: Unknown.

When Valve’s table fills in, this page should quote the new numbers and date the change. Until then, there are no official FPS targets.

What we can infer without lying

Inferences are labeled as such.

  • Unreal Engine 5 is confirmed. UE5 first-person games in 2026 typically want a modern midrange GPU for 1080p if the art looks like Frostrail’s snow, fog, and interior lighting. That is not a substitute for FakeFish’s number.
  • Online co-op and Unreal networking mean CPU and RAM headroom for four player instances of weather, trains, and AI. Dual-core 4 GB pages you may see on old databases are not credible for this project.
  • Playtest footage shows dense interior meshes, blizzard particles, and long outdoor draws. Laptop iGPUs are a gamble. We will not pretend otherwise, and we still will not print a fake VRAM minimum.
  • Storage: expect more than a tiny indie footprint because UE5 plus audio plus four-player test maps adds up. TBA means they have not committed to a GB number. Keep a chunk of SSD free if you get a beta client; do not wipe a drive based on our guess.

Third-party tables to treat as junk

Some listing sites already show copied “Dual Core 2.4 GHz / 4 GB / GTX 950” rows. Those values are generic placeholders that appear on unfinished store pages across the internet. They contradict UE5, they contradict the store’s own TBA, and they are not FakeFish requirements. Do not buy or sell a PC against them. Do not file a Steam ticket that cites them.

Practical launch checklist (still not specs)

  1. 64-bit Windows, current GPU drivers, Steam overlay not crashing other UE5 titles you own.
  2. A wired connection for co-op. Hosting four people in a blizzard on unstable Wi-Fi is a gameplay bug you will blame on FakeFish.
  3. Headset. Engine noise is information; see controls.
  4. Disk space to actually download the playtest when the mail arrives. The Getting Started page is the rest of the client path.
  5. If the beta client launches at 15 FPS, file a report with GPU model, resolution, and settings — that is useful. “Unoptimized trash” is not.

Platforms people ask about

  • Linux / Proton: tentative interest from the studio, not a store checkbox. Try at your own risk in tests; do not call it supported.
  • macOS: not promised.
  • Steam Deck: unknown. A handheld UE5 blizzard shooter with co-op is a high bar.
  • Consoles: after 1.0 evaluation only.
  • Controllers: later; not a reason to assume Deck-friendly UI at EA launch.

When this page will get numbers

The honest trigger is Steam replacing TBA. Secondary triggers: an official news post, or a playtest UI that displays recommended settings with hardware names. We will not scrape a YouTuber’s “I run it on a 1660” as a minimum. Performance varies with snow, train interiors, and four-player density.

Until then, the useful answer to “can I run Frostrail?” is: we do not know, and neither does that aggregator. Wishlist, keep drivers current, and treat any closed-beta stutter as data for FakeFish, not as a refund case on a game that is not sold yet.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

What are the official Frostrail PC requirements?

TBA on Steam for OS, CPU, GPU, RAM, and storage, aside from 64-bit. Anyone listing exact cards as official is wrong until FakeFish fills the table.

Will it run on a GTX 950?

There is no official answer. Unreal Engine 5 plus a 2026 art pass makes that card an unsafe assumption. Wait for Steam’s table.

Does Frostrail support Linux or Steam Deck?

Linux is tentative in the FAQ; the store does not check it. Steam Deck is unknown. Windows PC is the EA platform.

How much disk space do I need?

Officially TBA. Keep SSD headroom for a playtest client, but do not trust a made-up GB number on this wiki either.
