Survival FPS Guides Hub

This hub is the map of every Frostrail tutorial on the wiki. The game is still heading toward Steam Early Access in Q4 2026, so these pages are written for closed-beta crews, returning playtesters, and anyone trying to understand the loop before they spend a weekend in the blizzard.

Start with Getting Started if you have not boarded yet. Move to How to Play once you want the pilgrimage, scavenging, and combat loop in one place. Use Controls for input expectations, Co-op before you invite a crew, Train and Eden Engine when the locomotive is the puzzle, and Survival when heat, repair, and the walk home start killing runs.

What these guides assume

Frostrail is an Unreal Engine 5 survival first-person shooter from FakeFish, published by Shiro Unlimited. You play Penitent Gardeners on an armored steam train. The rails are the only reliable way forward. The train is heat, storage, crafting, and a moving wall. Leave it and you gamble body heat, ammo, and the path back through Revenants and corrupted soldiers.

The studio built the game for crews of 1–4 with online co-op. Solo is supported. Local split-screen is not the mode they advertise. Controller support is on the roadmap, but FakeFish has said it probably will not be ready at the start of Early Access. Official PC requirements on Steam are still TBA — the system requirements page tracks that honestly instead of inventing numbers.

How to use this hub

Read in this order if you are new:

  1. Getting Started — wishlist, beta access, tutorial, first stop.
  2. How to Play — the loop that every later system hangs on.
  3. Train and Eden Engine — fuel, power, carriages, defense.
  4. Survival — heat, clothing, repair, risk versus reward.
  5. Co-op — roles, invites, and how four people stop stepping on each other.
  6. Controls — keyboard and mouse first, pad later.
  7. Crafting and Repair — benches, modular guns, clothes.
  8. World and Map — tundra, camps, vaults, multiple exits.
  9. Story and Lore — Gardeners, Void, why the rails exist.

If you already played the April playtest or the August closed beta, skip the onboarding tone and jump to the pages that match the deaths you keep repeating: train stalls, dungeon greed, ammo drought, or a crew that never assigned a rear guard. The PC nav dropdown only lists eight entries; everything else is on this hub.

Guides explain how systems work. Rankings live elsewhere. When you start asking which gun to craft first, open the weapon tier list. Relics found in dungeons and fired from the train are covered on Relics. Enemy types and how they pressure the rails sit on Enemies. Beta windows, invites, and NDA rules are on closed beta. April versus August test waves sit on playtest history. Bigger scope promises — biomes, loot, 1.0 pricing — sit on the roadmap. Pack a printable-style list from the survival checklist before you host.

Official store, Discord, and socials are collected on links. This wiki is unofficial. When a Steam news post disagrees with a tip here, trust FakeFish.

What “good” looks like in a session

A clean run is not a highlight reel of dungeon clears. It is a train that still has heat, a crew that still has ammo, and a pile of salvage that can be turned into walls, stations, or a gun you can actually feed. The guides on this hub keep repeating that idea on purpose. Frostrail punishes the same two habits: treating the locomotive as a spawn room you ignore, and treating every ruin as a loot pinata you must empty.

Read the pages, pick two rules for your next session, and ignore the rest until those two stick. Then come back for Relics, repair benches, and crew roles. That is how you get value out of a wiki while the game is still in flux.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Which Frostrail guide should I read first?

Open Getting Started if you have never played. Open How to Play if you already finished the tutorial and keep dying on the walk back.

Are these guides for the live Early Access build?

Early Access is still planned for Q4 2026. The guides track official posts, trailers, and closed tests. Systems can change; we will update pages when FakeFish does.

Do I need co-op to use these guides?

No. Solo is a supported way to play. The co-op guide is optional until you invite people.

Where do weapon ranks live?

Not here. Use the Tier List hub and the weapons page so combat advice does not fight tutorial advice.
